The Children of Zaccai - Ezra 2:9

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel, Parosh, Shephatiah and Arah, Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, the children of Elam and the children of Zattu”, and in chapter two and verse nine of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Zaccai” where we read,

The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore.

The verse reads, “The children of Zaccai ... Ezra began with the words, “the children ” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Zaccai” which means “belonging to Zaccai whose name means pure and was the head of a family returning with Zerubbabel” . Ezra shared about the offspring of “Zaccai” who returned to Jerusalem

The verse continues, ... seven hundred and threescore Ezra added the words, seven hundred and threescore” or “seven hundred and sixty people”. Ezra said there were seven hundred and sixty members of the offspring of “Zaccai” who left Babylon to go to their homeland.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra how there were seven hundred and sixty more people who were the offspring of “Zaccai” who obeyed the commission to leave Babylon and go back to Jerusalem. God was on the move, and He moved within the individual families, they obeyed. God wants everyone to hear His voice and invitation to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to hear Him and obey when He directs us to move.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Bani”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
