In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel, Parosh, Shephatiah and Arah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab and the children of Elam”,and in chapter two and verse eight of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Zattu” where we read,
The children of Zattu, nine hundred forty and five.
The verse reads, “The children of Zattu ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children ” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Zattu” which means “belonging to Zattu whose name means brightness of him and was a family of exiles who returned with Zerubabbel”. Ezra listed the offspring of “Zattu” who also returned to Jerusalem from Babylon.
The verse goes on to say, “... nine hundred forty and five.” Ezra continued with the words, “nine hundred forty and five.” or “there were nine hundred and forty five children of Zattu who responded to Cyrus' commission”. Ezra shared how there were nine hundred and forty five members of the family of “Zattu” who went back to Jerusalem.
When we consider Ezra's words in this verse, we learn how the offspring of “Zattu”, nine hundred and forty five of them, responded to the directive of “Cyrus, the king of Persia” to go back to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple there. Jehovah God's grouping of people was coming to fruition, and as these families, one by one, went back to “Jerusalem”, they were being obedient to Him as well as to king “Cyrus”. God uses people to help us in our relationship with Him, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He wants us to believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, and when we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and commission us according to His perfect plan, purpose and will in His Kingdom.
