In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also included, “the priests, the Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and the children of Hodevah seventy and four” and “the singers, the porters” and “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth, Keros, Sia and Padon, Lebana, Hagaba and Shalmai ...”, and in chapter seven and verse forty-nine of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Hanan, Giddel and Gahar”,where we read,
The children of Hanan, the children of Giddel, the children of Gahar,
The verse reads, “The children of Hanan, the children of Giddel, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children”which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Hanan” or “belonging to Hanan whose name means he is merciful”, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Gahar” or “belonging to Gahar whose name means very great”. Nehemiah included the offspring of “Hanan and Giddel” in his census of the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the reconstruction of the barrier wall.
The verse goes on to say, “... the children of Gahar, ...” Nehemiah continued with the words, “the children” or “the progeny or offspring” “of Gahar” which means “belonging to Gahar whose name means hiding place”. Nehemiah added the progeny belonging to “Gahar” to his list of the people of Israel who went back to Jerusalem and Judah.
When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover how he added the offspring of “Hanan, Giddel and Gahar” to his list of the people of Israel who went back to Jerusalem and Judah to the rebuilding of the barrier wall. One by one and family by family these members of the “Nethinims” to the temple were accounted for by Nehemiah, and each of them were important to Jehovah God. God loves everyone, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and include us among those who will live in Heaven with Him forever.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Reaiah, Rezin and Nekoda”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
