The Children of Reaiah, Rezin and Nekoda - Nehemiah 7:50

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim, Jericho, Lod, Hadid, Ono and Senaah.” He also counted, “the priests, the Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and the children of Hodevah seventy and four” and “the singers, the porters” and “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth, Keros, Sia and Padon, Lebana, Hagaba, Shalmai, Hanan, Giddel and Gahar”, and in chapter seven and verse fifty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Reaiah, Rezin and Nekoda”, where we read,

The children of Reaiah, the children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda,

The verse reads, The children of Reaiah, the children of Rezin, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the childrenwhich means “the offspring and progeny” “of Reaiah” or “belonging to Reaiah whose name means Jehovah has seen”, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Rezin” or “belonging to Rezin whose name means firm”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Reaiah and Rezin” were included in his census of the “Nethinims” of Israel who returned to Jerusalem to minister in the temple.

The verse goes on to say, “... the children of Nekoda, ...” Nehemiah continued with the words, “the children” or “the progeny or offspring” “of Nekoda” which means “belonging to Nekoda whose name means distinguished”. Nehemiah added the offspring belonging to “Nekoda” to his list of “Nethinims” who returned from being captive in Babylon to Jerusalem.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover more groups of families through Nehemiah that were servants to the “Levites and priests” within the temple in Jerusalem. Each of these families returned to Jerusalem after being in exile in Babylon for seventy years, and now they would be used to serve in the worship of Jehovah God in the temple. God wants to have a personal relationship with everyone, and when we submit ourselves to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and rose from the grave three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a willingness and ability to be used in His Kingdom for the glory of His name.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Gazzam, Uzza and Phaseah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
