In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added several of the men such as “the men of the other Nebo” and “the other Elam” as well, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-five of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Harim”, where we read,
The children of Harim, three hundred and twenty.
The verse reads, “The children of Harim, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Harim” which means “belonging to Harim whose name means dedicated”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Harim” were among the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the reconstruction of the barrier wall.
The verse goes on to say, “... three hundred and twenty.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “three hundred” or “three hundred offspring” “and twenty” which means “and twenty more”. Nehemiah said there were “three hundred and twenty” offspring belonging to “Harim” who were accounted for among the people of Israel.
When we think through Nehemiah's words in this verse, we see how he counted the three hundred and twenty offspring of “Harim” who were included in his census of the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and Judah after being exiled in Babylon to the finishing of the barrier wall. One by one and family by family Nehemiah was faithful in counting the people, and because each of them were important to God, He wanted all of them enumerated. God wants everyone to be in a personal relationship with Him, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised from the dead three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us His Holy Spirit who will lead and guide us into all truth so we may relate to and live with Him forever.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Jericho”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
