In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city.” Nehemiah included the children of many of the people of Israel in his census, and he added “the men of the other Nebo, the other Elam” and “the children of Harim”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-six of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Jericho”, where we read,
The children of Jericho, three hundred and forty and five.
The verse reads, “The children of Jericho, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Jericho” which means “belonging to Jericho whose name means its moon”. Nehemiah included the offspring of “Jericho” or “its moon” among the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the completing of the barrier wall.
The verse goes on to say, “... three hundred forty and five.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “three hundred” or “three hundred offspring plus” “forty and five” which means “forty-five more”. Nehemiah shared how there were “three hundred and forty-five” of the progeny belonging to “Jericho” who were included within his census.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that “three hundred and forty-five” offspring of “Jericho” were accounted for in his census of the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and Judah to the finishing of the barrier wall. God knew all of these people, and because they were obedient to His commission, they were included in His enumerating of them. God wants us to be obedient to Him as well, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead three days later, we now have access to forgiveness of our sins and everlasting life with Him. God loves us, and when we are obedient to His way of salvation, we are blessed and benefitted. Let all who read these words yield to Him and be obedient to His wonderful invitation to receive His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Lod, Hadid and Ono”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
