As King Ahasuerus listened
to the report about Mordecai saving his life, he asked his servants
who was in the court. In chapter six and verse four we learn that not
only was Haman there, but his plans were much different than what the
king had in mind. We read:
And the king said, Who
is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court
of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the
gallows that he had prepared for him.
Our
verse begins, “And the king said, Who is in the
court?” Now that King Ahasuerus desired to honor and reward
Mordecai for the spoiling of his assassination attempt, he needed
someone to carry out his desire. His first inclination was to ask who
was in his courtyard. The one who was present could be the king's
agent of blessing, and his plan was to use whoever would be worthy to
carry out this task.
The
verse continues, “Now Haman was come into the outward court of
the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the
gallows that he had prepared for him.” It just so happened that
Haman was present in the court, but his intentions for being there
were much different than what was planned for him. Haman desired to
have the king ratify his wish to hang Mordecai upon the fifty cubit
gallows he had built for him. It just so happened that the timing for
Haman to give his request was at the exact time that King Ahasuerus
was looking for someone to reward Mordecai.
As we
read this verse, do we have in our minds that God is involved? If we
think about this long enough, we will realize that God's timing is
impeccable. Who would have thought in advance that at the exact time
that Haman was acting out his plan the king would be looking for him
to perform one that was totally opposite. We might even chuckle at
God's sense of humor in this if we ponder it long enough.
Our
encouragement should come as we realize that not everything is as it
seems, and although the circumstances and events that we have planned
may seem like the way things will be, God may have a totally
different idea in mind. Our key is to realize that we can trust Him
and not just what occurs. May we ever have the presence of mind that
God is at work even when we cannot see.
Next
time we will see King Ahasuerus' servants reveal his presence, so
read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow...there is more...
