Paul the
apostle gave the Ephesian church members instructions concerning
those who “walk in darkness”. They were never to be
involved in such practices because they were walking “in the
light”, and in chapter five and verse twelve of his letter,
Paul told the Ephesians it is “a shame to even speak of those
things” where we read:
For it is
a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in
secret.
The
verse begins, “For it is a shame even to speak of those
things...” Paul began with the words, “For it is a shame”
or “even, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, therefore and verily it is
indecorum, base and dishonorable” “even to speak” which
means “say, affirm over, maintain, teach, exhort, advise, command,
direct, intend and mean to say” “of those things” which
refers to “the evil secret and private things”. Paul not only
charged the Ephesian church members to have “no fellowship with
the unfruitful works of darkness” and to “reprove them”,
he also declared that speaking about them was “dishonorable” as
well.
The
verse goes on to say, “...which are done of them in
secret.” Paul continued, “which are done” or
“become, come into existence, begin to be, receive being, come to
pass and happen” “in secret” which means “the evil and
private things”. Paul told the Ephesians not to even speak about
“wicked things” that are done privately without public knowledge.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we should be inspired to never even
“speak” about wicked things people are doing “in
secret” never-mind participate in them. Christians must have a
different standard than the world, and if they are speaking about
evil and wickedness which is done by people “in private”, they
are very much in alignment with those of whom they speak. May the
Lord Jesus Christ through His Holy Spirit help us to keep our mouths
shut when it comes to “works of darkness” until He
inspires us to “reprove” those wicked and evil acts.
Next
time Paul shares about “all things that are reproved are
made manifest by the light:”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
