The Fish Vomits Jonah
Jonah 2:10
10/17/17
After suffering
inside the “belly of the great fish”, Jonah cried out to
God in prayer and “looked toward” His “holy temple”.
He shared how those “who observe lying vanities forsake their
own mercy”, and after
making this conclusion and vowing that he would “pay that that”
he had “vowed”, in chapter two and verse ten of this
prophesy we see how God “spoke to the fish, and it vomited out
Jonah” where we read:
The
verse begins, “And the LORD spoke unto the fish,...”
The writer began with the words,
“And the LORD”
which refers to “Yehovah or Jehovah who is the existing One and the
proper name for the one true God” “spoke”
or “uttered, answered, commanded, promised and intended” “to
the fish” which means “the
great fish which swallowed Jonah”. After seeing Jonah in his
repentive state, the LORD “spoke”
to the “great fish” which imprisoned him.
The
verse continues, “and it vomited out
Jonah upon the dry land.”
The writer
added, “and it vomited out”
or “spewed, disgorged or regurgitated”
“Jonah” whose
name means “dove” “upon the dry
land” or
“dry ground and earth”. When the LORD “spoke”
to the “great fish”,
it “spewed” Jonah out of its mouth and onto the “dry earth”.
When
we think through the words in this verse, we see the power of God
manifested in at least two ways. First, He was patient with Jonah and
waited until Jonah knew for himself that he had “observed
lying vanities”. Secondly,
“the LORD” had
power to instruct the “great fish”
to do exactly as He desired. Jesus Christ patiently waits for those
He desires to save until they realize they have “followed after
vain ways and ideas”, and as soon as they turn their hearts and
minds toward Him, He is ready to respond with His “Salvation”.
May the LORD reveal to us our “lying vanities”,
and let us seek His “Salvation”
while it may be found.
Next
time we begin a new chapter and see the LORD speak to Jonah “a
second time”, so read ahead,
and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
