Jesus Blessing His Disciples - Luke 24:50

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus opened His disciples' “understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse fifty of his book Luke shared how Jesus, “led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them” where we read:

And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

The verse reads, “And he led them out as far as to Bethany, ... Luke began with the words, “and, he led them out or “and Jesus brought forth His disciples and the people with them away” “as far as to Bethany” which means “until they reached the village at the Mount of Olives named Bethany which means house of dates or house of misery”. Luke shared how Jesus brought forth His “eleven disciples” and the people with them to the village of “Bethany” which was located at the “Mount of Olives”.

The verse continues, “... and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.” Luke added the words, “and he lifted up his hands” which means “and Jesus raised His physical hands”, “and blessed them” or “and celebrated, consecrated and invoked blessings upon His disciples and the people with them”. Luke shared how Jesus “raised His hands” and “consecrated blessings” upon His “disciples” and their companions.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn of a beautiful scene as Jesus is “leading” His “eleven disciples and the people with them” to the “village of Bethany” which is located at the “Mount of Olives”. When He arrived, Jesus “raised His hands” and began to “bless” the people before Him. Jesus spoke a “blessing” upon these people with whom He was going to leave the responsibility of sharing the “gospel” of the Kingdom of God throughout the world. They were to begin sharing from the “city of Jerusalem”, and as we know, the “good news” of Jesus Christ has spread thru the entire world. Jesus desires to “bless” everyone who will yield their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and they can be used “mightily” by Him throughout the world to bring the “good news” of the Kingdom of God to everyone.

Next time Luke shares, “while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
