Jesus Carried Up to Heaven - Luke 24:51

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus opened His disciples' “understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high. And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse fifty-one of his book Luke shared, “while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven” where we read:

And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

The verse reads, “And it came to pass, while he blessed them, ... Luke began with the words, “and it came to pass or “and it happened and came into existence”, “while he blessed them” which means “during the time Jesus celebrated, consecrated and invoked blessings upon His eleven disciples and the people with them” the following occurred. Luke shared when Jesus was “consecrating and invoking blessings” upon His “eleven disciples and their companions” the following happened.

The verse continues, “... he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.” Luke added the words, “he was parted from them” which means “Jesus was disjoined and departed from the eleven disciples and the people with them”, “and carried up into heaven” or “and brought or taken up into the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”. Luke shared how Jesus was “taken up” to “Heaven” after blessing His “eleven disciples and their companions”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was “taken up” to “Heaven” after “consecrating and invoking blessings” upon His “disciples and the people with them”. Jesus' work upon the earth was completed, and now it was to be the work of His “eleven disciples and the people with them”. Today the message of the “gospel” is to be spread throughout the world by Jesus' “church”, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” become a part of His message bearing body. Jesus promised the “Holy Spirit” would guide those who believe in Him into all truth (See John 16:13), and those who yield their life to Him will be used to bring “good news” to all who hear.

Next time Luke shares how the disciples of Jesus, “worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
