After writing about Jesus being in the beginning with God and was God, creating the world and being the light that shines in darkness, John the apostle wrote, “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world”, and in chapter one and verse ten of his book, John shared how Jesus, “was in the world, and the world was made by him”where we read:
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
The verse reads, “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, ...” John began with the words, “He was in the world” or “the Word or Jesus existed within the the circle of the earth with all it's goods, endowments, riches, advantages and pleasures”, “and the world was made by him” which means “and the circle of the earth with all it's goods, endowments, riches, advantages and pleasures appeared and came into existence through and by means of the Word or Jesus”. John shared how Jesus was in the “earth”, and He created the “earth and everything within it” came into existence by Jesus.
The verse continues, “... and the world knew him not.” John added the words, “and the world” which means “and the circle of the earth with all it's goods, endowments, riches, advantages and pleasures” “knew him not” or “did not perceive, understand or have knowledge of Jesus”. John shared how the people of the “earth” did not understand nor perceive who Jesus was.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus entered the “earth” which was “created” by Him, but the people within the “earth” did not perceive who He was. This is the case with many people. Though God has revealed Himself through His Son Jesus, most people do not perceive nor understand who Jesus is or what His mission was. God loves people, and He came to the world to redeem them from their sins so they may live with Him forever. Those who submit their lives to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will “know” the “true One” of God who came to bring “salvation” to mankind.
Next time John shares how Jesus, “came unto his own, and his own received him not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
