After writing about Jesus being in the beginning with God and was God, creating the world and being the light that shines in darkness, John the apostle wrote, “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light”, and in chapter one and verse nine of his book, John shared how Jesus, “was the true Light, which lights every man” where we read:
That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.
The verse reads, “That was the true Light, ...” John began with the words, “that was” or “the Word or Jesus exists as” “the true light” which means “the veracious, sincere and real truth, knowledge and spiritual purity” of God. John shared how the “Word” or “Jesus” was the “real truth, knowledge and spiritual purity” of God.
The verse goes on to say, “... which lights every man that comes into the world.” John continued with the words, “which lights” which means “who enlightens, illuminates, instructs, informs, teaches and gives understanding to” “every man” or “each, the whole, all and everyone whether male or female” “that comes” which means “who arises, appears and arrives” “into the world” or “within the circle of the earth with all it's goods, endowments, riches, advantages and pleasures”. John shared how the “Word” or “Jesus” was the One who would “illuminate and inform” every person who appears on the “earth”.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus is the “real truth, knowledge and spiritual purity” to mankind because He is the One who is able to “inform and illuminate” them concerning spiritual things. God's desire is to have every person know the “truth” which is in and from His Son Jesus. John the Baptist was to “bear testimony” of Jesus, and those who put their faith and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall receive the “Light” of His “salvation” which is available to all who yield to Him.
Next time John shares how Jesus, “was in the world, and the world was made by him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
