The Word Made Flesh - John 1:14

John the apostle wrote how Jesus, “was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”, and in chapter one and verse fourteen of his book, John shared how, “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” where we read:

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,

(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The verse reads, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, ... John began with the words, “And the Word or “and the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world's life both physical and ethical which for the procurement of man's salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds” “was made flesh” which means “became, was caused to be, arose and appeared in history as a body of a man, physical origin, generation or relationship” “and dwelt among us” or “and tabernacled, resided and encamped with John the apostle and the others with him”. John shared how the “Word”, Jesus, lived in a physical body alongside and with he and the others who followed Him.

The verse continues, “... (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John added the words, “(and we beheld” which means “and John and the others with him saw, observed, looked upon and perceived” “his glory” or “Jesus' splendor, brightness, magnificence, excellence, preeminence and grace”, “the glory as of the only begotten” which means “the splendor, brightness, magnificence, excellence, preeminence and grace like and even as the single of it's kind and sole Son” “of the Father” or “belonging to the Heavenly Father who is God”). John continued, “full” or “filled up, complete, lacking nothing and perfect” “of grace” which means “pertaining to that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm and loveliness” “and truth” or “what is true appertaining to God and the duties to man in moral and religious truth”. John parenthetically shared how he and the others with him observed the splendor, brightness, magnificence and grace” which belong to the “sole” progenitor of Almighty Father God, Jesus, who was filled with “joy, pleasure, charm and loveliness” as well as “that which is true pertaining to God and man”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how “the Word”, Jesus, became “flesh” or as a physical man and lived with John, the other disciples and the people with him. He embodied the “grace and truth” of God, and John and the others with him were able to observe Jesus demonstrate the fullness of who God is. God came in the “flesh” to live among people, and He identified with mankind in every way except sin. Jesus was and is God's answer to the penalty for sin which is death, and all who believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God.

Next time John shares how, “John bare witness of him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
