In Psalms chapter thirty one David said, “In you, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in your righteousness. Bow down your ear to me; deliver me speedily: be you my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me”, and in chapter thirty one and verse three of Psalms David said to Jehovah, “your are my rock and my fortress”, where we read,
For you are my rock and my fortress; therefore for your name's sake lead me, and guide me.
The verse begins, “For you are my rock and my fortress;” David began with the words, “For you are my rock” which means “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, exist as my, David's, stronghold of security” “and my fortress” or “and my, David's, fastness, fort and strong place”. David declared Jehovah God to be his “stronghold and fortress”.
The verse continues, “therefore for your name's sake lead me, and guide me.” David added the words, “therefore for your name's sake” or “then, wherefore and these things being so on behalf of your, Jehovah God's, reputation and cause of fame, glory and reputation” “lead me” which means “govern over, bestow upon and transport me, David”, “and guide me” or “and carry, feed and sustain me, David”. David concluded that because of Jehovah God's fame, reputation and glory, He should “govern over” and “sustain” him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David knew Jehovah God was his protection and security. God's reputation, fame and glory enabled Him to govern over David and sustain him regardless of where he went or what happened to him. God loved David, and David loved God. David was wise enough to know if it were not for Jehovah God, he would have no protection and safety upon which to rely. This caused him to yield his life to the governing, lordship and control of Jehovah God, and he knew God would “lead” him in the best path for his life. God desires to “govern over” every person, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and now all are invited to be in a personal, intimate relationship with Him. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He becomes our protection, provision and “guide”, and we shall spend all eternity giving Him honor, praise and glory for being our stronghold, fortress and security.
Next time David says to Jehovah, “Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
