In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah saw two women with wind in their wings carrying a basket with a woman inside and he wrote, “Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Where do these bear the ephah? And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base”, and in chapter six and verse one of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “there came four chariots out from between two mountains” where we read,
And I turned, and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
The verse reads, “And I turned, and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains;” Zechariah began with the words, “and I turned” or “and I, Zechariah, rotated”, “and lifted up my eyes” which means “and exalted or raised my, Zechariah's, physical eyes”, “and looked” or “and perceived, considered, regarded and observed”, “and, behold” which means “and lo, look and consider”, “there came four chariots” or “there entered four transports or horse drawn carriages” “out from between two mountains” which means “exited or departed from two risings above the plain or hills”. Zechariah shared how he rotated his body again to raise his physical eyes and observed “four carriages” departing from two risings above the plain.
The verse continues, “and the mountains were mountains of brass.” Zechariah added the words, “and the mountains” or “and the risings above the plain or hills” “were mountains of brass” which means “existed as risings above the plain or hills constructed with copper or bronze”. Zechariah shared how the risings above the plain in this vision were made of copper or bronze.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah about another facet to the vision given to him concerning Israel. This time he observed four carriages which came between two risings above the plain that were constructed of copper or bronze. We shall see what the meaning of these “chariots” were in our next few verses, but let us keep in mind that “brass or bronze” in the scriptures generally depicts “judgment” that is to fall. God's desire is to save every person from the judgment and penalty for sins which is death (See Romans 6:23), and this is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from the judgment that shall fall upon all those who refuse and reject God's offer.
Next time Zechariah says, “in the first chariot were red horses”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
