In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one”, and in chapter fourteen and verse ten of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “all the land shall be turned as a plain” where we read,
All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted, up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's wine.
The verse reads, “All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem:” Zechariah began with the words, “all the land” or “each, every and the whole of the country, region, district and territory” “shall be turned as a plain” which means “will exist encircled, surrounded and changed in direction similar and in likeness to a steppe, wilderness or desert” “from Geba” or “separate and apart from Geba whose name means hill and was a city in Benjamin, modern 'Jeba', which stands on the top of a steep terraced hill, six miles or ten kilometers north east of Jerusalem and three miles or five kilometers from Gibeah, on the edge of the Wadi Suweinit looking northward to the opposite village of ancient Michmash, modern 'Mukhmas'” “to Rimmon” which refers to “the border of Rimmon whose name means pomegranate and was the deity of wind, rain, and storm, worshipped by the Syrians of Damascus” “south of Jerusalem”which means “in the southern direction from Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and was the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said every part of the country and territory was to be changed in direction similar to a wilderness or desert from the towns of “Geba” to “Rimmon”.
The verse goes on to say, “and it shall be lifted, up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the place of the first gate,” Zechariah continued with the words, “and it shall be lifted up” or “and it, Jerusalem, will be raised”, “and inhabited in her place” which means “ and abided in, dwelled it and remained in”, “from Benjamin's gate” or “separate and apart from the entrance or opening named after Benjamin whose name means son of the right hand and was Jacob and Rachel's youngest son and brother of Joseph” “unto the place of the first gate” which means “to the location belonging to the opening or entrance which is foremost, chief and primary”. Zechariah shared how city of “Jerusalem” will be raised and lived in from the location of the entrance named after “Benjamin” to the entrance known as the “first” or primary one.
Finally the verse says, “unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's wine.” Zechariah concluded this verse with the words, “unto the corner gate” or “to the opening or entrance known as the angle of a street or wall”, “and from the tower of Hananeel” which means “and separate and apart from the elevated stage or pulpit belonging to Hananeel whose name means God has favored and was the name of a tower in Jerusalem” “unto the king's wine” or “to the royal leader and ruler's fruit of the vine”. Zechariah ended this verse by including the entrance which was like an angle and separated toward the royal leader's fruit of the vine.
When we think through Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how the city of Jerusalem is to be lived in, raised up and spread out from “gate” entrance to “gate” entrance throughout the land. The idea is that “Jerusalem” will be filled with people who are believers in God through His Son Jesus Christ, and they will be spread out throughout the land during this time. (See Luke 3:4-6) God wants everyone to be a part of His Kingdom, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to make that possible. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be part of the expanding city of “Jerusalem” and to dwell with Him in Heaven forever.
Next time Zechariah says, “men shall dwell in it” with “no more destruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
