She Went Down and Did Ruth 3:6 - Equipped for Battle

The plan has been made, and Ruth has promised to keep all that Naomi has told her. Ruth has committed to ready herself to meet Boaz, and although the proposition is risky, Ruth is willing to take a venture in faith to discover if Boaz will keep the obligation of a kinsman redeemer. The question becomes, will Ruth actually do what she has promised to do? We find out in today's verse found in chapter three and verse six where we read:

And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.

It is one thing for Ruth to hear the words of her mother-in-law, and say that she will obey Naomi's words, and it is quite another to actually do what she has heard and promised. However, “she went down unto the floor, and did...”. Ruth fulfilled her promise. So many times we hear people make promises, we see them make resolutions, yet when it comes time to actually do the things they promise, they don't complete what they say. This was not the case with Ruth. Ruth kept her words by acting upon them.

Not only did Ruth keep her words but she “did according to all that her mother in law bade her.” Ruth didn't half heartedly meet Naomi's words, she “did...all” of them. Sometimes people are known to begin to fulfill a promise and then quit about halfway through the completion of the task. Not Ruth, she fulfilled all that she was told to do.

In the book of James in chapter one and verses twenty-two through twenty-four we read:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was.

We have made promises in our past, but have we fulfilled them? We have listened to others who would help us improve our positions, but have we kept their words? We have read the scriptures over and over and made resolution after resolution, but have we been doers of the Word as Ruth, or do we simply give lip service? As we consider the resolve and actions of Ruth, perhaps her actions will motivate us to keep that which we have promised to do, and may the Lord Jesus help us as we keep His word.

Next time we see Boaz's actions in this story, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow...there is more...
