The People and Silver are Yours Esther 3:11 - Equipped for Battle

Haman's request to destroy the Jews has been granted by King Ahasuerus, and the king has sealed it by giving Haman his ring. Without investigation or regard to Haman's statements about these people scattered throughout the Persian empire, King Ahasuerus has given his approval to genocide. Not only does the king give permission to Haman for such carnage, but in chapter three and verse eleven we learn even more about the king's disregard for the Jews. We read:

And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.

If we recall our previous verses, as Haman made his plea to King Ahasuerus he took into account that there might be a loss of revenue from the Jews if they should be exterminated. He offered to pay ten thousand talents of silver himself to cover the loss. However this verse begins, “And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to you...” Not only did the king give his ring to Haman for a seal of approval, but he also awarded him the very silver that Haman offered to pay. When the enemy decides to destroy, he decides to destroy completely and he is willing to pay the tariff for doing so.

The verse goes on to say, “...the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.” Not only was there not an investigation to discover whether Haman's claims were valid, there is little regard for how Haman attends to such a subordinate group of people. Either there was an incredible trust by the king toward Haman or he was too caught up in other affairs to be concerned about these rebellious folk. He simply allows Haman to do as seems good to him. One would think that with such a threat to the kingdom the king might concern himself in this matter to a greater degree, but King Ahasuerus seems quite content to allow another person to affect his reaction.

What has the enemy of our soul plotted against us that has the approval those opposed to us? Are there any significant areas of concern that the enemy of our soul would negotiate over to cause our demise? Have we been such a significant threat to the current earthly flow of things that the spiritual world would decide we needed extermination? Let us remember as we reflect upon this verse that all of this was caused by Mordecai's refusal to bow before Haman, and without his stand, none of this would have taken place. However, let us not forget that in the very natural events of this story, God Almighty is behind the scenes conducting the affairs of His people with their future in mind, and thus shall he do with us as we stand for Him and His Kingdom as well.

Next time we will see Haman put his plan into action, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow...there is more...
