Paul
the apostle told Timothy he was to “fight
the good fight of faith” and “lay
hold on eternal life” as he was “called”
and “professed a good profession before many
witnesses”. He, as Jesus, was to “witness
a good confession” and “keep
this
commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our
Lord Jesus Christ:”. In chapter six and
verse fifteen, Paul told Timothy more about Jesus as he called him
“King of Kings, and Lord of Lords”.
We read:
the King
of kings, and Lord of lords;
The verse begins,
“Which in his times he shall show,
who is the
blessed and only Potentate,...” Paul
began this verse with, “Which”
or “Who” “in his times”
which speaks of Jesus in “due measure,
opportune, seasonable and right time” “he
shall show” or “expose to the eyes, give
evidence or proof of a thing and demonstrate by words or teach”
“who is the blessed”
which means “happy” “and only”
or “sole, single, alone and by himself “Potentate”
which means
“prince, courtier, high officer and
royal minister of great authority”. When Jesus appears, He will
demonstrate Himself as the sole and only Prince and royal minister of
the Almighty God.
The verse continues,
“the King of kings, and Lord of lords;” Not
only will He show Himself to be the sole and single royal minister,
but Paul goes on to add, “King of Kings”
which means “leader of the people, prince, commander, lord
of the land over all those who exercise the highest influence and
control their lands”. In addition, Paul said, “and Lord of
lords” which refers to “he to whom a person or thing belongs
and who has power of deciding”. He is master over all others who
“rule, have dominion, exercise influence and have power over things
and forces”. There is no greater power on earth than Jesus who is
King and Lord over all those who hold these titles.
As we meditate
upon Paul's words, we should allow ourselves, as much as possible, to
realize just how powerful Jesus Christ really is. When he appears, He
will show Himself as the ultimate power, and not a single King,
President, Lord or Ruler shall have more power than He. In other
words, Jesus will reveal Himself as the One in ultimate control over
all other influences in the world. No one, no where will ever compare
to His rule and authority. Since this will be revealed, does it not
encourage our hearts that He is already in control? No matter what we
face, no matter how difficult it is and no matter how overwhelmed we
might be, Jesus Christ is “King of kings and Lord of lords”,
and He rules over anything or any situation we face. May the Lord
bring this truth to our minds, and may we enjoy in peace the One who
rules over every circumstance.
Next
time Paul shares concerning Jesus' “immortality” and
“light”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
