Samaritans Want Jesus to Stay with Them - John 4:40

John the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “Say not you, There are yet four months, and then comes harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit unto life eternal: that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. And herein is that saying true, One sows, and another reaps. I sent you to reap that whereon you bestowed no labor: other men labored, and you are entered into their labors. And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did”, and in chapter four and verse forty of his book, John shared how the Samaritans, “besought him that he would tarry with them” where we read:

So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them:

and he abode there two days.

The verse reads,So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them:” John began with the words, “So when the Samaritans” or “therefore, then and on account at the time and moment the people of Samaria” “were come unto him” which means “arose and approached Jesus”, “they besought him” or “the people of Samaria begged, asked, desired, craved and yearned for Jesus” “that he would tarry with them” which means “that Jesus would remain, abide and continue alongside the people from Samaria”. John shared how the people from the region of Samaria wanted Jesus to “stay” with them after they approached Him.

The verse goes on to say, and he abode there two days. John continued with the words, “and he abode there” which means “and Jesus stayed, dwelt and remained in the city of Samaria for” “two days” or “two sunrises to sunsets”. John shared how Jesus complied with the people of Samaria's request for Him to “remain” with them, and He stayed with them for “two days”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how the “Samaritans” were so comfortable with Jesus after meeting Him that they wanted Him to continue with them for a while. Jesus complied with their request, and stayed with them for “two days”. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their life to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they want Him to remain with them, and He will certainly comply.

Next time John shares how, “many more believed because of his own word”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
