The LORD Rebuke You, O Satan - Zechariah 3:2

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said of the angel who spoke to him, “And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him”, and in chapter three and verse two of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “the LORD rebuke you, O Satan” where we read,

And the LORD said unto Satan, the LORD rebuke you, O Satan;

even the LORD that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

The verse reads, And the LORD said unto Satan, the LORD rebuke you, O Satan; Zechariah began with the words, “and the LORD” or “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “said unto Satan” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to the adversary, one who withstands and the arch-enemy of good”, “the LORD rebuke you” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God reprove and admonish you, Satan”, “O Satan” which means “O the adversary, one who withstands and the arch-enemy of good”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God spoke to “Satan” and told him that He Himself admonished and chided him.

The verse goes on to say, “even the LORD that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Zechariah continued with the words, “even the LORD” or “indeed Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “that has chosen Jerusalem” which means “who selected and elected Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split” “rebuke you” or “reprove and admonish you, Satan”: “is not this a brand” which means “is this not similar to a burning branch or stick” “plucked out of the fire” or “snatched, delivered, rescued and stripped from the fiery fire”? Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who elected “Jerusalem” chided “Satan”, and it was similar to a burning stick being pulled out of a fiery fire.

When we consider Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God called upon His own self to “rebuke and chide” “Satan”. God “chose, elected and selected” “Jerusalem”, and when people oppose “Jerusalem”, they oppose Jehovah God. God rescued the people of “Israel” from the hand of their enemies, and He will save and rescue us from the power of sin, hell and the grave when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, rescue us like a “brand plucked out of the fire” and come to our defense any time “Satan” and his opposing foes rise up against us.

Next time Zechariah says, “now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
