How do we know that God loves us? John the apostle has been sharing with us how we should love God and love others. He has told us that "love is of God, and he that loves is born of God and knows God." But what about God loving us? Does He really love us even when we are disobedient to Him? John answers that question in today's verse where He wrote in First John chapter four and verse nine:
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Here is the answer. God manifested or demonstrated His love toward us by sending His only begotten Son into the world. There is no need for further proof. God sent His son, and even more significant is the reason...that we might live through him. God knew we were destined to die and be separated from Him forever, and God's desire was that we would have fellowship with Him. He loves us, and He loves us so much that He sent His most precious valuable to provide a way to live with Him forever.
God did not send jewels, for even the greatest of them or piles of them were not valuable enough to save us. God did not send precious metals, for all the metals of value in the world are not enough to pay the price. No, God sent His son, and His Son Jesus came to give all who will believe in Him life and life everlasting. This and this alone provides the proof that God indeed loves us, and He loves all who will trust in, rely upon and cling to Him.
If we are ever having doubt as to whether God loves us or not, we should remember this: God sent His Son that we might live through Him. There is no other need or reason to be given for proof. We must simply look at the demonstration of God's love by sending His Son.
Next time we shall share together about an amazing characteristic of God, so read ahead, and we will share together then.
Until tomorrow...there is more...
