Why are so many people non-believers in Jesus Christ? Why are they so opposed to having a relationship with God? What is the reasoning behind not believing that there is an Almighty Creator who desires fellowship with people so much that He would send His Son Jesus Christ to pay their penalty for their sins? Why are some people so “anti-Christ”? John the apostle answers those questions in his verse to us today. Look at what he wrote in the book of First John chapter four and verse five:
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them.
To my amazement I saw where the Atheist Alliance International is having an conference later this month. They call it the “Celebration of Reason”. Should anyone desire to google their conference, notice one thing, even their symbol is the world, and each topic will be about this world. Look once again at John's words: “They are of the world.” This is the “reason” they speak of the world. This is the “reason” the world hears them. Their focus is on this world and not the world to come.
Paul the apostle wrote it this way in the book of Colossians in chapter three and verse two:
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
And if we recall from First John chapter two and verse fifteen:
Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Those who are opposed to God are not unbelievers in everything. They simply believe in unbelief. They believe in their “reason”. They believe in their speakers, their quotes, their philosophies, and their quit witted jargon, but they do not believe in Jesus Christ as being the Savior. Therefore they are “anti-Christ”, and thereby they exclude themselves from a relationship with God.
We must remember that God Almighty through His Holy Spirit inspired every word that is written in scriptures. Yes, he used people to do the actual writing, but He inspired each word. John gives us the reason people reject Jesus Christ, and there is a great chance that these verses are here not only for our protection and understanding, but also to provoke those who do not believe in Jesus to consider Him once again.
Perhaps Isaiah the prophet wrote it best in the book named after him in chapter one and verse eighteen:
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Next time we will take a look at who we are as believers in Jesus Christ and consider those who will hear us as well, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow...there is more...
