When God begins to
demonstrate His power, it is limitless. He's God Almighty and no foe
can oppose Him successfully. We have been learning through Habakkuk
that God is responding to the wicked who have been in the site of
Habakkuk, and the Chaldeans who were used for judgment are now being
dealt with by God. Habakkuk continues to reference the past showings
of God to demonstrate the way He will prevail in Habakkuk's current
situation. We see in today's verse where God was with Israel as they
journeyed through the wilderness and conquered former foes. Habakkuk
wrote in chapter three and verse five:
He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and
drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were
scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways [are] everlasting.
As Israel traveled through
the wilderness, they encountered opposing nations. Kings such as
mentioned in the book of Numbers in chapter twenty-one and verses
thirty-three through thirty-five came against them.
And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan:
and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his
people, to the battle at Edrei. And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear
him not: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people,
and his land; and you shall do to him as you did unto Sihon king of
the Amorites, which dwelled at Heshbon. So they smote him, and his
sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and
they possessed his land.
The Heavenly Father's showed
His power against these foes, and as Habakkuk is reminded of these
times, He is encouraged in the present ones.
Habakkuk wrote, “the
everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow:”
There is nothing in nature that
cannot be moved by God. We must remember He created everything, and
should there be any “everlasting” mountain that needs to be
moved, He can move it. Even though it may seem like hill after hill
after hill is in our path, still His power prevails. Nothing can
impede Him, and though opposition and travail may seem endless, Jesus
who said, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever
shall say unto this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea;
and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things
which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says,”
(Mark 11:23) can easily move any mountain that may be in our own
lives.
Finally Habakkuk reminds us, “his ways are
everlasting.” God's power is
limitless, without end, and enduring through any situation. He
doesn't come to the end of His resources, and they are readily
available to Him at all times. His plan never runs out, and though it
may appear at times that He is not on the scene, He stands
perpetually ready to save. God's ways may not be known to us, and we
may often be surprised by how He operates, but we should not let the
mystery of Him mislead us into believing that He is aloof and
uncaring. As He was with the Israelites, so shall He be with those
who believe in and trust in Him. Our God is readily at hand with all
the power we need for any situation we face. May we learn to
continually trust in Him.
Next time we shall
continue to see God demonstrate His power over other nations, so read
ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow...there
is more...
