Peter the
apostle wrote that Christ “was foreordained before the
foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for
you”, and His blood which is more precious than “silver
and gold” was used for the “scattered” Christians'
redemption. In chapter one and verse twenty-one of his letter to
them, Peter shared that this fact would lead to “faith and
hope”“in God”. We read:
Who by him
do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead,
and gave
him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
The verse begins, “Who
by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead,...”
Peter began
with the words, “Who by him”
which refers to “Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Son of God” “do
believe”
or “think to be true, be persuaded of, credit or place confidence”
“in God”
who is “the Godhead trinity which is comprise of God the Father,
Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “that
raised him up”
which in Greek is the phrase “egeirō
autos egeirō” and
means
“arouse, cause to rise, awake, recall the dead, raise up, produce
and cause to appear” “from the
dead” or
“out of, by, and away from one who has breathed his last, destitute
of life and inanimate”. By Jesus Christ, Peter and the “scattered”
Christians were able to “believe in
God” who
“raised him”
from the grave.
The
verse goes on to say, “...and gave him glory; that your
faith and hope might be in God.” Peter
continued, “and gave him”
which means “bestowed upon, granted, let have, supplied and
furnished Jesus” “glory”
or “opinion, judgment, view and estimate which resulted in praise
and honor”; “that your faith”
which means “the conviction that God exists and is the
creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal
salvation through Christ” “and
hope” or “expectation of
good and joyful, confident expectation of eternal salvation” “might
be” which means “exists,
happens and is present” “in God”
who is “the Godhead trinity which is comprise of God the Father,
Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. God gave Jesus “glory”
so that the “scattered” Christians
might believe, trust and “hope” in
God who provides eternal salvation.
When
we think through these words of Peter, we begin to understand the
extent to which God Almighty went that we might receive salvation
unto eternal life. He gave“glory”
to His only begotten Son Jesus Christ that we might have “faith
and hope in God”. Because he
did, we now have access to God, and we have the promise of eternal
life. May all “glory” be to God Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ
for His abundant mercy and grace!
Next
time Peter tells the Christians about “purifying”
their “souls”,
and gave him glory”, so read ahead, and we shall join together
then.
