Paul the
apostle suffered great trials and tribulations because he presented
the gospel to the Ephesian gentiles. Though it cost him, he declared
the saving grace of God Almighty through Jesus Christ. In chapter
three and verse fourteen of his letter, Paul declared this to be the
reason he “bowed his knees unto” God and Jesus Christ
where we read:
For this
cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
The
verse begins, “For this cause I bow my knees...” Paul
began with the words, “For this cause” which means “favor,
pleasure, sake of and on this account” “I bow” or “bend
in honor of one” “my knees” which refers to “the idea
of kneeling down”. Because Paul was given the opportunity to share
the gospel with the Ephesians, though it caused him great personal
tribulation, he was blessed to kneel in honor before God.
The
verse continues, “... unto the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ,” Paul added, “unto
the Father” which means “the
male generator, ancestor, founder, originator and transmitter of a
family or society” and refers to God Almighty “of our
Lord” which means “the
master and he to whom a person or thing belongs about which he
has power of deciding” “Jesus”
whose name means “Jehovah is
Salvation” and is “the Messiah and Son of God” “Christ”
who is “the anointed One, Messiah and Son of God”. Paul was
privileged to humbly “bow”
his “knee” to God
Almighty and Jesus Christ His Son for the opportunity to share the
gospel with the Gentiles.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see his humility and respect
before God because of the opportunity afforded him. Paul knew it
was a privilege to share the gospel with the Jews and Gentiles, and
when he suffered because of it, it only inspired him to bow his
“knee” before God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. May
we humble ourselves like Paul the apostle and bow our “knees”
before the Ones to whom we owe our Salvation and eternal life.
Next
time Paul shares by “whom the whole family in heaven and
earth is named”, so read
ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
