Preaching the Gospel - Acts 14:7

The beloved physician Luke shared concerning the apostles of Jesus, “there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, they were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lies round about”, and in chapter fourteen and verse seven of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “there they preached the gospel”, where we read:

And there they preached the gospel.

The verse begins, “And there they preached the gospel. Luke began with the words, “and there” which means “and at Lystra, Derbe and the surrounding regions” “they preached” or “Paul, Barnabas and their companions heralded, declared and proclaimed” “the gospel” which means “the good news of Jesus Christ”. Luke shared how “Paul, Barnabas and their companions” “proclaimed” the “gospel” of Jesus Christ in the cities of “Lystra, Derbe and the areas that surrounded them”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn what “the apostles” did when they entered the cities of “Lystra, Derbe and regions around them”. They “preached the gospel”. This was their purpose and drive, and when they discovered another place to share God's word, they did so. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield themselves to Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Let all who read these words follow the example of the “apostles” and submit to Jesus to be used to spread His “gospel” message throughout the world.

Next time Luke shares how, “there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
