Luke the beloved physician shared how Paul, Silas, Timothy and Luke himself, “passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews”, and in chapter seventeen and verse two of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures” where we read:
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them,
and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
The verse begins, “And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, ...” Luke began with the words, “and Paul” which means “and Paul whose name means small or little”, “as his manner was” or “even like Paul was used to and accustomed to doing”, “went in unto them” which means “entered the synagogue where the Jewish people were”. Luke shared how “Paul” followed his regular pattern and entered the “synagogue” where the Jewish people were meeting for worship.
The verse goes on to say, “... and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,” Luke continued with the words, “and three sabbath days” or “and three seventh days of the week which was a sacred festival on which the Israelites were required to abstain from all work” “reasoned with them” which means “conversed, held discourse and spoke with the Jewish people in the synagogue” “out of the scriptures” or “from written portions or sections of the Holy Scriptures”. Luke shared how “Paul” held discourses and spoke with the Jewish people by referring to the “Holy Scriptures”.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” kept true to his habit of going into the “synagogues” to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the Jewish people first when he entered a new city. “Paul” referred to God's “Holy word” when he spoke with the Jews in Thessalonica for “three Sabbath days”, and when a person studies God's plan of redemption of man through His Son and Messiah that is given throughout the Bible, they will understand how intentional God was in His effort to give every person an opportunity to receive His salvation, forgiveness and everlasting life.
Next time Luke shares how Paul was, “opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
