Stand Upright - Acts 14:10

The beloved physician Luke shared how, “there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked. The same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, ...”, and in chapter fourteen and verse ten of the book of Acts Luke shared how Paul told the cripple man, “stand upright on your feet”, where we read:

Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on your feet. And he leaped and walked.

The verse begins, “Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on your feet. Luke began with the words, “said with a loud voice” which means “Paul uttered, declared and proclaimed with a great, abundant and boisterous sound and tone of uttered words”, “stand upright on your feet” or “be raised up to an erect, straight and not crooked position upon your, the crippled man's, physical feet”. Luke shared how “Paul” instructed the “crippled man” to “stand” to an erect position upon his physical feet.

The verse continues, “And he leaped and walked.” Luke added the words, “and he leaped” or “and the crippled man jumped or sprung up” “and walked” which means “and ambled about to make progress”. Luke shared how the “man who was crippled” jumped up and “walked about” when he obeyed the instruction of “Paul”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how “Paul” acted upon what he saw in the crippled man. He told the man to “stand up on his feet”, and the man immediately jumped up and “ambled” around. This supernatural miracle was performed through “Paul”, and we shall see the impact it had upon the people in the city of “Lystra”. God's supernatural works are performed to lead people to belief and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When they yield to Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with His Father God. Those who are wise will “leap up” spiritually at the “good news” of salvation through Jesus as they surrender themselves to Jesus who is able to heal for all eternity.

Next time Luke shares what happened, “when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
