As Joel
continued to encourage the people of Judah, he told them “the
LORD” will be “jealous for his land, and pity his people”.
In chapter two and verse nineteen of his letter, Joel shared about
the LORD's blessings upon the people where we read:
Yes, the
LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you
corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I
will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
The
verse begins, “Yes, the LORD will answer and say unto his
people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil,...” Joel
began with the phrase, “Yes, the LORD” which refers to
“Yehovah or Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for
the one true God” “will answer” or “respond, testify
and speak as a witness” “and say” which means “speak
or utter” “unto his people” which refers to “a nation,
members of one's people, compatriots, countrymen, kinsman and
kindred”, “Behold I will send” which means “let go,
stretch out, extend, direct and let loose” “you corn” which
means “wheat, cereal or grain” “and wine” or “fresh
or new wine such as freshly pressed wine”, “and oil”
which means “fresh, shining and pure oil”. Joel idea is the LORD
is waiting to bless His people with provisions of food, wine and pure
“oil”.
The
verse continues, “...and you shall be satisfied
therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:”
Joel added, “and you shall be satisfied” which means
“fulfilled, sated, surfeited, in excess, enriched and glutted”
“therewith: and I will no more make” which means “give,
set, put, bestow, grant, permit, ascribe, devote, consecrate,
dedicate, commit and entrust” “you a reproach” or
“scorn, taunt, disgrace and rebuke” “among the heathen”
which means “a people or nation usually of non-Hebrew people”.
Not only would provision and blessing be given, but “satisfaction”
and lack of being “scorned” among “heathen” nations would be
provided as well.
When
we think through these words of Joel, we see the benefits to humbling
ourselves before the LORD. God desires to bless us with provisions,
and as we make Him the priority in our lives through His Son Jesus
Christ, we will be “satisfied” with sustenance, and when
others would “scorn” us, they will have no provision to do so.
Next
time Joel shares how the LORD will “will
remove far off from”
them “the northern army”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
