The Forgiveness of Sins Preached - Acts 13:38

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Paul spoke to the people in the synagogue in Antioch about Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, and afterward referred to the Psalms that read, “You are my Son, this day have I begotten you. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore he said also in another psalm, You shall not suffer your Holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption. But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-eight of the book of Acts Luke shared to Paul said, “through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins” where we read:

Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren,

that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

The verse begins, “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, ... Luke began with the words, “be it known unto you therefore” which means “allow and permit the following to be understood, perceived, discovered and discerned to you, people in the synagogue, then, wherefore and on this account”, “men and brethren” or “male human beings and fellow believers who are united to one another by the bond of affection”. Luke shared how “Paul” instructed the “men and brothers” within the synagogue to have knowledge of what he was about to declare.

The verse goes on to say, “... that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: Luke continued with the words, “that through this man” which means “that by way and means of this male human being, Jesus” “is preached unto you” which means “is announced and proclaimed to you, people within the synagogue” “the forgiveness of sins” or “the release from bondage and imprisonment, remission and pardon from errors, wrongs, mistakes and missing of the mark”. Luke shared how “Paul” told the people in the synagogue through Jesus is declared the “pardon and remission” of their errors, wrongs and willful disobedience to God”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” informed the people within the synagogue that it was “by Jesus” that “forgiveness” of their “sins” was made possible. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and after He was raised from the dead, anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words hear and observe the declaration of Jesus and receive forgiveness and pardon of their sins for all eternity by yielding themselves to Him.

Next time Luke shares how Paul says, “by him all that believe are justified”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
