In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how, “one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and swore by him that lives for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished”, and in chapter twelve and verse eight of his book Daniel said, “I heard, but I understood not”, where we read,
And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
The verse reads, “And I heard, but I understood not:” Daniel began with the words, “and I heard” or “and I, Daniel, was given the faculty for hearing, perceiving and listening”, “but I understood not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, Daniel, did not discern, perceive or have intelligence about it”. Daniel shared how he listed to what the male being said, however, he did not comprehend what it meant.
The verse goes on to say, “then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?” Daniel continued with the words, “then said I” or “at that time uttered, declared and proclaimed I, Daniel”, “O my Lord” which means “O, my, Daniel’s, firm and strong master”, “what shall be the end” or “whatsoever and wherewithal will exist the completion, finality and hindmost part” “of these things” which means “pertaining to each, every, the whole and everyone of the acts and deeds declared to Daniel”? Daniel questioned his firm and strong master as to whatsoever would exist as the finality and completion of the words, acts and deeds spoken to him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel continued to question the male being upon the river as to the completion of all the words, acts and deeds he was previously told. We shall see how the male being on the river responds in our next verse, but for now, let us consider this bold request made by Daniel. He did not “understand” and wanted clarification, so he asked. God wants us to boldly approach Him when we have questions and lack in understanding, (See Hebrews 4:16) and the way we gain access to Him is to receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was raised from the dead after three days and promised to forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and to give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and equip us according to His Divine purpose and will when we put our faith and trust in Him. Let all who read these words yield to Jesus and allow God to inform them in keeping with His will.
Next time Daniel shared how the one, “said, Go your way, Daniel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
