As Amos the
prophet expressed the LORD's appeal to the people of Israel, he
included how God brought them “up from the land of Egypt”
and were the only ones God knew
“of all the families of the earth”.
This caused the LORD to
“punish” them for
“all” their “iniquities”.
In chapter three and verse three of his prophesy, Amos shared
concerning “two walking together” where we read:
Can two
walk together, except they be agreed?
The
verse began, “Can two walk together,...”
Amos began with the words, “Can two”
or “two or both people” “ walk” which
means “amble, proceed, move, go away, live and lead”
“together” which means “in
union or united and alike”. Amos questioned the people of “Israel”
concerning “the LORD” and them being as “two people”
proceeding in a united manner.
The
verse continues, “...except they be agreed?”
Amos added, “except”
which means “so as not, in order not, an account of not and because
and until not” “they be agreed”
or “fixed, appointed, assembled, met, set, betrothed, assigned and
designated”. Amos implied the impossibility of “tow people”
being “unified” unless they are “set and appointed” at the
same place or idea.
When
we consider these words of Amos, we see how the LORD made His appeal
to Israel by using the idea of “two” in agreement with one
another. Except two parties “come together in unity”, they cannot
abide together and separation usually occurs. More people whether in
business or in marriage “separate” because they are not in
“agreement”. The LORD wants to be in “agreement”
with us, and this is only accomplished by believing and trusting in
His Son Jesus Christ . May we understand the importance of “unity”,
and as God's desire was with “Israel”, let us be “unified”
with Him.
Next
time we Amos shares about a “lion”
and a “young lion”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
