Th Seafaring Gull

The Seafaring Gull

O' Seafaring Gull how dost thou be
That sitteth so still while winds gale thee
Thy feathered wings curl back in sweep
while waves draw near yet doth not reach

Thy bent back knee and web lined toes
hold fast upon the sands below
While searching fast a morsel there
with teams of gulls who seem to care

Who sit above the ripping tide
and squeal the song of oceanside
Where n'er one captures fleeting glide
of seamless work of endless flight

Upon the shifting winds doth fly
while penetrating dateless sky
and swooping near the sand filled shore
the sunbathed ones who bake their core

The active souls that there thus play
and walk upon the daunting sway
that perforates the ocean's crest
avoiding place for thou to rest

For beachballs thrown and caught by these
the skin clad ones who mop with ease
their bodies with their sunscreen tans
and liquid balms for wrinkled hands

While boats below wave runners play
colored umbrellas and tents displayed
where footprints mark the trails they lead
of pecking ground beneath thy feet

And floating donuts grace the sea
upholding flesh of burnt beings
who care not for thy nesting place
the place of ocean be thy space

Thy twig like legs supporting thee
and scurry those that close near thee
be creatures fat both large and small
who's dining there nor stop at all

While copters fly their patron's glee
thou thus avoid their passioned plea
and parachutes sail high above
the path of thine availing love

And machine winged birds with banners high
thus over-sail thy blue-stained sky
soliciting the patrons funds
and make thy course avoided run

While billowed clouds both grey and white
both blanket sparse the sun-filled sky
in groups of “v” thy patterned form
and background flags be thus the norm

Old glory sets thy background there
while thou thus soar within the air
and come to rest without a sail
and pull within divided tail

Thou thus my favored of all winged fowl
and bring my soul to purposed vow
that I may rest from labors known
and follow paths that thou hast flown
