The Crow Lizard Church

The Crow Lizard Church

A wretched crow once came to church
and sat upon a rail
outside where none invited in
though tried didst not avail

His blackened coat he flustered then
with beak now opened wide
and then began to caw at those
who manage things inside

“I hear thy noise” he thus refrained
and beckoned entrance in
“For I have sound that will prevail
much better those with skin”

“I must be heard” the crow did cry
appealing with a plea
“I've heard thy notes the desperate seeks
and summons to agree”

“I've heard thy noise and music chords
not one on them compares
to that which I hold deep inside
for mine be greatly rare”

When suddenly within this quest
a lizard did appear
with dewlap show he thus did make
spectacular veneer

He too thus begged for entrance there
for he had much display
twas his delight to show them all
his stark but grand array

“Look here” said he, with cheerful glee
“tis I more stylish than thee.”
“For I know fashion for the day
the church apparel be”

“For to look nice the Sunday first
requireth of thee thy best
the suit, the tie the shiny shoes
of course the floor-length dress”

So bicker back and forth did they
the lizard crow combat
where're cawing loud or scenic proud
be most import top hat

“Tis the music cawing there
the most important part”
the crow didst say with anthem phrase
as he began to start.

“Not true” replied the lizard then
“the look be that most keen”
“No matter what one says or does
import to make a scene”

So banter on they thus began
to gather those as them
They'd form a group of like mind ones
the ones with best prelim

“We'll join our forces” the crow did screech
as they began to caw
while lizards then did thus begin
to let their dewlaps fall

A choir formed the crows as then
the flock began to sing
to out perform the lizard show
they'd let their voices ring

Till one of them on stage that day
the pulpit micro took
and cawing loudly to them all
thus opened them a book

“Tis crows that be the best you see
their voices are most need”
to which the lizards did object
“not true” we must be seen

One side did caw the other show
the best of seen and heard
till crows did fly away from there
to start another church

And later there a lizard sort
with skin both green and brown
succeeded that environment
where judgment did abound

“We be best dressed the lizards there
chameleons first are we”
until one there did thus compare
his dewlap that be green

“Tis green that grandest color here”
to which the reds thought less
“Not true” said reds “we do contest
for all know reds are best”

Once then the greens their dewlaps shined
exalted them with glee
and gathered there one side of church
where reds ones do not be

“Separate thyself” said greens
“from these dewlaps of red”
“for all know books of truth declare
that greens be best ones bred”

And after thus with much divide
the red ones left the spar
to start themselves another church
to keep from greens afar

But all the while the crows did caw
who on their own did meet
yet within their private den
to start divide compete

For yet among the crows were there
but those who cawed quite loud
and other crows with ease did caw
with caws both in and out

“The louder caws be what we like
if thou dislike should leave,
for thou must be too old for us
the crows that caw with ease”

And one by one the crows divide
and thus did lizards too
affinity to their own way
was all they'd have to do

Until the church of one became
the normal of the day
twas theirs alone that was the best
there was no other way

So all alone did lizards meet
as well alone the crows
and by themselves the cawed and shined
for how long no one knows

Then once upon a happened day
the crow and lizard old
they came to meet on rail again
before the first church told

Reflecting on their moment there
where all these things began
they wondered if their sep'rate lives
should they but think again

“Perhaps”, said they “these caws and shines
be not much matter here
for loving grace and mercy shown
be most import it's clear”

With purposed hearts that day they met
put caws and shines aside
and linking arms and taking steps
to fin'ly go inside
