In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “better is the poor that walks in his uprightness” where we read,
Better is the poor that walks in his uprightness,
than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
The verse begins, “Better is the poor that walks in his uprightness, ...” Solomon began with the words, “better is the poor” or “more pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable exists the person whether male or female who is impoverished, in want, in need and destitute” “that walks” which means “who departs, proceeds, moves away, ambles about and makes their way” “in his uprightness” or “within his, the person's, integrity, completeness, fullness, innocence and simplicity” compared to the following. Solomon said the person who is impoverished and makes their way about in innocence and completeness is more pleasant than the following.
The verse continues, “... than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.” Solomon added the words, “than he that is perverse” or “compared to he, the person whether male or female, who is twisted, distorted, crooked and perverted” “in his ways” which means “within his, the person's, journey, manner, path and course of life”, “though he be rich” or “even if he, the person, exists as wealthy and noble”. Solomon said the innocent person who is impoverished lives in a more pleasant manner than the wealthy person who is twisted and distorted.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a difference between people with integrity who are in need and those who are perverted and wealthy. Although they may not have many possessions and riches, people who live in innocence and simplicity are more well off than twisted people who have an abundance of wealth. God wants us to value our relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us understanding concerning “wealth and riches” according to His standards and not that of the world.
Next time Solomon says, “whoso keeps the law is a wise son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
