In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse two of Proverbs Solomon said, “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice” where we read,
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:
but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.
The verse begins, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:” Solomon began with the words, “when the righteous” or “at the time and moment people who are just, right, lawful and correct” “are in authority” which means “become numerous, increased and enlarged”, “the people rejoice” or “the nation, kinsman, compatriots and country-men are made glad, gleeful and merry”. Solomon said at the time people who are just and lawful rule and are in charge, the nation and compatriots are made gleeful and merry.
The verse goes on to say, “but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.” Solomon continued with the words, “but when the wicked” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at the time and moment people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God” “bear rule” which means “have dominion, reign and power”, “the people mourn” or “the nation, kinsman, compatriots and country-men sigh, groan and gasp”. Solomon said at the moment people who are evil and hostile to God have power and dominion, the nation and compatriots sigh and groan.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a nation of people respond to the temperament and disposition of their ruler. When a ruler is just and lawful, people become merry, however, if that leader is evil, the people groan. God wants to be our ultimate leader, and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us not only with how to respond to our leaders, but also to be in prayer for them at all times. (See 1 Timothy 2:1-4)
Next time Solomon says, “whoso loves wisdom rejoices his father”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
