Making Your Father Rejoice - Proverbs 29:3

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoso loves wisdom rejoices his father” where we read,

Whoso loves wisdom rejoices his father:

but he that keeps company with harlots spends his substance.

The verse begins, Whoso loves wisdom rejoices his father: Solomon began with the words, “whoso loves wisdom” or “whatever person whether male or female who has affection and passion for skill, shrewdness and prudence” “rejoices his father” which means “makes merry, joyful and glad his, the person's, immediate male progenitor or ancestor”. Solomon said whatever person has a passion for skill and prudence will make their immediate male progenitor merry.

The verse continues, “but he that keeps company with harlots spends his substance. Solomon added the words, “but he that keeps company with harlots” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person whether male or female who associates and becomes companions alongside and accompanying prostitutes and adulterers” “spends his substance” which means “makes his, the persons', wealth, riches and sufficiency to vanish away, be destroyed and exterminated”. Solomon said the person who associates with prostitutes and adulterers will use up their wealth and riches.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he recognized the value of having a passion for skill and prudence. These traits will bring joy to their male progenitor, however, the person who associates with prostitutes and adulterers wastes away their wealth and valuables. God wants us to have a passion for His “wisdom”, and when we seek Him through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a desire and affection for skill and prudence and to avoid wasting what belongs to Him on adulterers and prostitutes.

Next time Solomon says, “the king by judgment establishes the land”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
