A report from the news yesterday said that 1.2 million homes will be lost to foreclosure this year. Another report showed the DOW down over 500 points in yesterday's trading. Job losses, unemployment, consumer confidence down, etc., etc., etc. this country is going through great economic woes, and the monetary costs are very high because of it. However, what must also be considered is the economic social costs associated with times like these.
Tension in the home is rising. Because of the lack of funds, the inability to enjoy vacations as usual or an occasional nice dinner out, some couples are becoming frustrated, and they are taking it out upon one another. Meeting previous obligations becomes the priority, and bills are the drive. Lately it seems that more and more couples are separating or ending in divorce, and their children are feeling the tension too. Their inward thoughts and fears are being manifested through the latest trends in music, body art and revelry. Thank goodness this is not one hundred percent of the cases, but it is on the rise.
There is an old saying that is worthy of consideration, “Having therefore food and clothing, learn therewith to be content.” Recently it seems that the better part of living is being narrowed down to such simplicity. The question is whether those who have had so much for so long can learn such a concept again, and at the very least remove some of the social costs affiliated with the economic woes of the day.
Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
