The container was rusty and smelled of rottenness. Its darkened surface suffered onslaughts from the briny waters within the ocean. Although the rugged chest was locked, soon those who had it would discover the contents inside. With precise skill the time worn lock was cut in two, the lid was lifted, and what lie beneath was revealed. Jewels, gold, and treasures filled the box to capacity. Although the outside box was not much to look upon, what lie beneath is where the real treasure was.
There's an old saying that shares, “You can't tell a book by its cover.” Another says, “You cannot tell what a person is like until you find out what is within them.” In other words, sometimes what is seen on the outside is not at all what is on the inside. Some people are very handsome and beautiful until they open their mouths and show their actions, and others are “physically beauty challenged” but are some of the most eloquent and beautiful people within. What lies beneath the outward appearance is where true beauty is found. What lies beneath is valuable, enduring, and of great worth.
Some fear that the outside is fading, and needs a lift, a polish or tuck or two, and although that might make some difference, a person who invests in what lies beneath will be a treasure for the rest of their days in which everyone will be able to find great worth.
Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
