Mnason of Cyprus - Acts 21:16

Luke the beloved physician wrote after he, “Paul” and their traveling companions spent time in “Caesarea”, “Paul” was warned that he should not go to Jerusalem. Then Luke shared how, “we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse sixteen of the book of Acts Luke wrote, there went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesareawhere we read:

There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea,

and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.

The verse begins, “There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea, ... Luke began with the words, “there went with us also” which means “there even so and indeed left, departed and went forth alongside Luke, Paul and the men traveling with them” “certain of the disciples” or “particular ones of the students, pupils and attendants” “of Caesarea” which means “who belonged to the city of Caesarea whose name means severed and was located in Palestine was built near the Mediterranean by Herod the Great on the site of Strabo's Tower, between Joppa and Dora. It was provided with a magnificent harbor and had conferred upon it the name of Caesarea, in honor of Augustus”. Luke shared how “some of the pupils, students and attendants” of Jesus who were located in “Caesarea” also traveled to Jerusalem with him, “Paul” and the men journeying with them.

The verse goes on to say, “... and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.” Luke continued with the words, “and brought with them” which means “and carried, lay hold of and accompanied alongside Luke, Paul, the men with them and the disciples from Caesarea” “one Mnason” or “a certain man whose name means remembering which was a common Greek name” “of Cyprus” which means “belonging to Cyprus who was a Cyprian or Cypriote”, “and old disciple” or “an aged, original and ancient pupil, student or attendant of Jesus”, “with whom we should lodge” which means “alongside who we, Luke, “Paul” and the men traveling with them were to be as guests and entertain hospitably”. Luke shared how he, Luke, Paul and the men traveling with them stayed with a fellow believer named “Mnason” who was from “Cyprus” and was an older “student or pupil” of Jesus Christ.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn more about the travels of he, Paul and the others with him. This time we discover a man named “Mnason” who lodged Luke, Paul and the men traveling with them as well as the few disciples from “Caesarea”. “Mnason” was an older man who used his resources to bless the “disciples of Jesus Christ”, and his name has been mentioned throughout the history of the Bible from this time. God loves people, and He will use them in ways they cannot imagine once they yield themselves to His Son Jesus. God wants to forgive the sins of everyone, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and provide them with ways to be used in His Kingdom to share the good news of God.

Next time Luke shares, when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
