The beloved physician Luke wrote how Paul told the elders in Ephesus, “I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. Yes, you yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have showed you all things, how that so laboring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive”, and in chapter twenty and verse thirty-six of the book of Acts Luke shared how Paul, “kneeled down, and prayed with them all” where we read:
And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
The verse begins, “And when he had thus spoken, ...” Luke began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “he had thus spoken” or “Paul had uttered, declared and proclaimed those words” the following occurred. Luke shared after “Paul” uttered the words about “giving” to the “elders in the church in Ephesus”, he did the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.” Luke continued with the words, “and kneeled down” which means “Paul bent to his knees”, “and prayed with them all” or “and made orations, supplicated and worshiped God alongside each, every, the whole and everyone of the elders in the church of Ephesus”. Luke shared how “Paul” knelt and “prayed” with all the “elders” from Ephesus.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” knelt and “prayed” with the “elders” from “Ephesus” after giving them his final exhortations. “Paul” knew this would be the last time he would see the faces of the believers in “Ephesus” on earth, and this was a somber time for them all. God loves to have people believe in His Son Jesus, and He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and join them to His “family”. When “family members” depart from one another, one of the best things they can do is kneel and pray for each other, and may “Paul's” example be an inspiration to all who read these words.
Next time Luke shares how, “they all wept sore”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
