Paul Embraces Eutychus - Acts 20:10

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Paul and the men with him, “sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead”, and in chapter twenty and verse ten of the book of Acts Luke shared how, Paul went down, and fell on himwhere we read:

And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves;

for his life is in him.

The verse begins, “And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; Luke began with the words, “and Paul went down” which means “and Paul, whose name means small or little, descended to where Eutychus was located”, “and fell on him” or “and lie upon or embraced Eutychus”, “and embracing him said” which means “and having thrown his arms around Eutychus, Paul uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “trouble not yourselves” or “do not be disturbed, in confusion or turbulent within your, the fellow disciples', selves”. Luke shared how “Paul” went down to the place “Eutychus” had fallen, embraced him and encouraged his fellow disciples not to be confused or disturbed over this situation.

The verse continues, “for his life is in him.” Luke added the words, “for his life” which means “because, since and on account that Eutychus' breath, vital force and living essence”, “is in him” or “exists within him, Eutychus”. Luke shared how “Paul” told his fellow disciples that “Eutychus” was alive.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” responded to “Eutychus” falling out of the third story window and dying while he was “preaching”. “Paul” himself went down to where “Eutychus” was, embraced him and encouraged the others with him that “Eutychus” was alive. This was another miracle performed by “Paul”, and this time it was within the “church membership”. God loves people, and His desire is for them to come to Him through His Son Jesus. When they do, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Let all who read these words realize, “Eutychus” was dead, raised back to life and eventually “died” again. What God was doing through “Paul” should lead every person who reads these words to understand, God is the “God of the Eternal”, and that which is temporary should never be seen as having greater value than that which lasts forever and ever.

Next time Luke shares how Eutychus was,come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
