One God and One Father 1 Corinthians 8:6

Paul the apostle shared his thoughts concerning false gods as he began with the words, “For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)”, and in chapter eight and verse six of First Corinthians as he continued sharing as he wrote about, “one God, the Father, of whom are all things where we read:

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him;
and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

The verse begins, But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him;” Paul began with the word, “But” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “to us” or “to Paul and the church members” “there is but one” which means “there is only one” “God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “the Father” or “the divine generator and originator of all”, “of whom” which means “by Him” “are all things” or “exists each, every, any, the whole, everyone and everything”, “and we” which refers to Paul and the church members “in him” or “in God”. Paul recognized there is “only one God”, and He is the “creator and originator” of everything that exists.

The verse goes on to say, and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.” Paul continued the words, “and one Lord” or “and only one person to whom things belong about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah” “Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “Christ” which refers to “the anointed one, the Messiah and the Son of God”, “by whom” or “through Him” “are all things” which means “exists each, every, any, the whole, everyone and everything”, “and we” or “Paul and the church members” “by him” which refers to “through God”. Paul declared the singleness of our “Lord Jesus Christ” who created everything including him and the Corinthian church members.

When we think through these words from Paul, in contrast to all the other “gods and lords” available to worship, we see his dogmatic claim to there being only “One God” who is not only “the Father” of everything, but is also the “originator or creator” of everything as well. Jesus Christ is “God incarnate” who was involved in all of creation- (All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3), and we also were “created” by God and His Son Jesus Christ who came to save everyone who will simply believe in Him which means to “trust in, rely upon and cling to” Him. May all who read these words understand and believe in the “One true God” and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

Next time Paul tells the Corinthians, “there is not in every man that knowledge”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
