Paul the apostle told the
church members in Corinth, “he that is
called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman”.
He also added, “he that is called, being
free, is Christ's servant”. In chapter
seven and verse twenty-three of First Corinthians, Paul told the
church members “bought with a price”
where we read:
You are
bought with a price; be not you the servants of men.
The verse begins, “You
are bought with a price;” Paul
began with the words, “You are” which
means “the church members were” “bought”
or “purchased and redeemed” “with
a price” which means “with value, honor,
deference and reverence”. Paul told the church members they were
“purchased” with a valuable “price”.
The verse continues, “be
not you the servants of men.” Paul
added the words, “be not you” which
means “the church members were not to become, happen and appear as”
“the servants” or
“slaves or bondmen” “of men”
which means “human beings whether male or female”. Because the
church members were “purchased” by God, they were no longer to be
as “the servants”
of the world.
When we consider these
words from Paul, we realize the Christians in Corinth were
“purchased” by God through the blood of Jesus Christ. That
implies “great value” and “honor”, and since they were
“servants purchased” by God, they were no longer to be as
“servants” of the world. If we have received Jesus Christ
as our “Savior and Lord”, we are “purchased” by Him, and our
“servitude” is to be unto Him and His kingdom. May the Lord to
help us realize our value to Him, and understand how we may “serve”
Him as our Savior and Lord.
Next
time Paul tells the church members, “let
every man...abide with God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
