Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth “the
time is short”,
so “both they that have wives be as
though they had none.”
He continued his discourse as he instructed the the church members
concerning, “they that weep, as
though they wept not”,
“and they that rejoice, as though
they rejoiced not, and they that buy, as though they possessed not”.
In chapter seven and verse thirty-one of
First Corinthians, Paul gave instructions to
the church members to, “use this
world, as not abusing it”
where we read:
And
they that use this world, as not abusing it:
for the fashion of this world passeth away.
The
verse begins, “And
they that use this world, as not abusing it:”
Paul began
with the words, “And they” which
refers to “the church members” “that
use this world” or
“who borrow and make use of this circle of the earth and aggregate
of earthly things such as it's goods, riches, advantages and
pleasures”, “as not”
which means “like and even as not” “abusing
it” or
“much, excessively and illy consuming it”. Paul added to his list
“not abusing”
the “use”
of the current “world”
in which the church members lived.
The
verse continues, “for
the fashion of this world passes away.”
Paul added
the word, “for” which
means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “the fashion” or
“the habitus which comprises everything in a person which strikes
the senses, the figure, bearing, discourse, action and manner of
life” “of this world”
which refers to “the current circle of the earth and the aggregate
of earthly things such as it's goods, riches, advantages and
pleasures” “passes away”
or “departs and disappears”. Everything within “this
world”
shall “depart and disappear”.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we see how important it was
to him for people to have “light attachment” to everything “of
this world”. This “world” and it's “fashion”
shall “pass away”, and because they are temporary,
Christians are to hold them loosely. The “gospel” of Jesus Christ
is “eternal”, and when we understand the true value of it,
nothing should be of more worth than a person's “everlasting life”.
Next
time Paul told the church members he, “would
not have” them
“without carefulness”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
