John the apostle wrote how Martha told Jesus that she knew her brother would rise from the dead on the last day, however Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this?”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-seven of his book John shared how Martha said to Jesus, “yes, Lord: I believe you are the Christ, the Son of God” where we read:
She said unto him, Yes, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ,
the Son of God, which should come into the world.
The verse reads, “She said unto him, Yes, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, ...” John began with the words, “she said unto him” which means “she, Martha, uttered, declared and proclaimed to Jesus”, “Yes, Lord” or “verily, truly, assuredly and even so, One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah”: “I believe that you are the Christ” which means “I, Martha, trust in, rely upon, cling to and have confidence that you, Jesus, exist as the anointed One, the Messiah and Son of God”. John shared how Martha confessed to Jesus that she truly and indeed “trusted in and relied upon” Him because He was God's “Messiah”.
The verse continues, “... the Son of God, which should come into the world.” John added the words, “the Son of God” which means “the Heavenly Father's only begotten Son”, “which should come” or “who should arise, appear, enter and come before the public” “into the world” which means “into the earth and human family”. John shared how Martha “believed” that Jesus was indeed “God's Son” who was destined to enter into the “earth” and be among it's inhabitants.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Martha stated her “trust and faith” in Jesus as God's “Son and Messiah”. She knew He was purposed to enter the world to be among it's inhabitants because people needed a “Savior” to pay the price for their sins. Without a “Savior”, the would and the people within it would “perish” eternally, and Jesus came to fulfill that role. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. Those who “believe and trust” in Him will be “saved” and live with Him eternally.
Next time John shares how Martha summoned her sister Mary and told her, “the Master is come, and calls for you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
