Jesus in the Place Martha Met Him - John 11:30

The apostle John wrote how Martha the sister of Lazarus left Jesus and, “went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calls for you. As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him”, and in chapter eleven and verse thirty of his book John shared how Jesus, “was in that place where Martha met him” where we read:

Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

The verse reads, “Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, ... John began with the words, “Now Jesus” which means “but and moreover the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “was not yet come” or “had not at this time come forth or appeared” “into the town” which means “within the village, abode or habitation called Bethany”. John shared how Jesus was still outside the village of Bethany.

The verse goes on to say, “... but was in that place where Martha met him. John continued with the words, “but was in that place” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover remained within the location” “where Martha” or “in the place Martha whose name means she was rebellious” “met him” which means “encountered Jesus”. John shared how Jesus was still located in the same place where Martha previously “encountered” Him.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was still not making His progress toward the town of Bethany. Though Martha engaged Him, and He promised her He was the “resurrection and the life”, He remained just outside the village. Jesus knew what He was going to do, and His timing was perfect. He was not anxious, hurried or worried over the circumstances at hand, and although other people were panicking, He was not. Jesus came to be the “Savior and Lord” of every person who believes and trusts in Him. Though He does not always move or come to the location they desire, He is always available to be trusted and believed for the forgiveness of sins and the inheritance of everlasting life.

Next time John shares how the women in Martha and Mary's house said Mary, “goes unto the grave to weep there”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
