Go to the Street Called Straight - Acts 9:11

The physician Luke wrote after “Saul” saw a great light and heard Jesus' voice on the way to Damascus, he asked, “Who are you, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you persecute: it is hard for you to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what will you have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord”, and in chapter nine and verse eleven of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called straight” where we read:

And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight,

and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prays,

The verse begins,And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, ... Luke began with the words, “and the Lord” which means “and the One to whom a person or thing belongs about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah” “said unto him” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Ananias”, “arise and go” which means “rise up and stand forth and depart and pursue the journey” “into the street which is called Straight” or “toward the lane or traveled way in a town that is named and known as level, upright, true and sincere”. Luke shared how “the Lord Jesus” spoke to “Ananias” and instructed him to go to a town passageway known as “Straight”.

The verse continues, ... and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prays, ...Luke added the words, “and inquire in the house” which means “and seek within the dwelling place, abode and habitation” “of Judas” or “belonging to Judas whose name means he shall be praised” “for one called Saul” which means “for the person whose name is Saul which means desired and was the Jewish name of the apostle Paul”, “of Tarsus” or “belonging to Tarsus which means a flat basket”: “for, behold, he prays” which means “because, since and on account, observe, notice, see and discern that he, Saul, offers supplication, oration and worship to God”. Luke shared how the “Lord” instructed “Ananias” to seek for “Saul” within the house that belonged to “Judas” because “Saul” was in supplication and worship.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover the instructions given to “Ananias” by the Lord. “Ananias” was to go to a street named “Straight” where “Judas'” house was located and search for a man whose name was “Saul”. “Saul” was “praying”, and God sent “Ananias” to answer his prayers. God loves people, and He has a plan for every person who puts their faith and trust in His Son Jesus. “Saul” sets an example for how to act when we are waiting on God, and “Ananias” provides the way to hear the “Lord Jesus” when He directs our path.

Next time Luke shares how “Saul”, “has seen in a vision a man named Ananias”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
